The stamp act crisis(1er texte)

The stamp act was not the fourth one, i twas past by the parlement of great britain, i twas the fisrt attenptdirectly to impose taxes on the colony.It was also levid in the british subject.The act require that all legal document should be taxed.It was part of an economic effort to pay back the war debt, england had contracted an enoumus war debt.

Morceau de cour manquant

In other words they were not to be second class subject.The second resolve said approximatly the same thing.But the word royal charges.Their were three times of colonies, the charter colonies, that was created with the king permission by settlers who were given financing and management by a corporation charter comming from a corrporation.Britain gave the right of the virginia compmay and the plymouth company to issue stock in order to underwritte colonising expedition.The massachussettes bay company(1628) ot the hudsons bay company(1670)they dinieded the relationship between the colony and the crown whereby the charter gave the sponsors of the collonies, broad gouverning powers including the authority to appoint the colonist governor and to make their iwn laws.The governor was so to speak chosen by the sponsor.In order to attract settlers they made a lot of concession to the colonies.In 1680 the virginia colonist gave them the right to call an assemblée of representative, and all colonies ended up having a representattive.

2.The proprietary colonies

This colonies belong to one person or to a group of person instade of a company, this people were given the complete rights of government over the land to be colonised.Never the less the proprietors gave up part of their powers to the people by accepting their legislatives bodies ;

3.the incorporated colonies

connecticut they requested a charter to the crownthe king try to regain control of the colony, he wanted to have a closer look at what.He regain control by chaging the stauts of the colonies The king was represented by a royal governor and he had the power of veto over the legislation of the colony, even inde

when the declaration in independance was published only 4 chaterte colonies were left, they were connecticut aryland pennsylvania and rhode islan

If they weere taxed by themself i twill be way more equal, , if taxes were fixed by london authority there will be a greater risque the last sentence refere.Theire is not one single document tahtcdutcazqekutfrsdtv that can be call as a constitutions

The magna carta defind the relationship between the king and the barons an dit established that they can only be trial by peers,

1628 the petition of rights limited the power of the crown and increase the power of parlement, and into the dommaine of parlement and the arbytrary imprisonnement you could not be in prison without due process of law.habeas scorpus i twas already the beginning of a parlymentar ;

The bill of right confirm the increase of the prerogatives and garaties a number of freedom estabisehd parlamentary monarchie, the resolve that the majesty a doqbbi a s enjoy the internak policy, important difference between interna land external taxes

Look we have always respected the king this colony have always been ruled of being governed as of colonial assemblé wich were colibdbbqsudibdziizha siaiiansjsjqhjjqiiqiqi

Taxe laws as always been voted by the assemblée, i twas later in 1624 that the governor was appointed by the king.lost part of his economy and of his freedom.all of a suddenthe next resolve was not passed and it created a lot a scanda land agitation among the colonist.

Also virginia was a colony the inhabitant claim to have the only control over the taxe laws, wich was refused by the king, he felt a more direct intervention of the crown in the raising of revenue was necessary.The limitation of thee freedom of the colonist could be threaten as welle.

And was governer he was an experienced politicianit was not ensynpathetic to the colonist grievances to the crownd, he has been educated as a lawyer and he propose that the colonies got the right to rise their own internal taxes and also that they will be given representation in the london parlement however they ignore.he was obliged to do something he did not approve and created a furor when he disolve the massachussets assemblee after it had adopted the massachusets circular letter.denouncing the townsend act.in a very late effort to moniy massachussets the british government recall bernard to enland, the present troubles were casting a shadow of digrace that was in rebellion to the stamp act.This man could understand that the troubles were going to grow, the troubles were going to testify to much greater resistance that was expected.

They stirred public protest,when of this article urge civil desobediance of the stamp act, and an other resolve aquaited support of the act to rebellioin against colonial authorities, governor bernad was oblish to adit that the act had rake the embers of revolt., they fellt unfairly tax without their consent.He insisted of the violent of the press, and suggested that the press was full of defamation(write sings which damage somebody damage someone reputation, and are their for against the law)The writer confess that he had understood that such writtings will be conducive to violent action, but he had not anticipated that the troubles will reach such magnitude.He narated an episode of the rebellion which is summed up in the text it is on the ffigy of Mr Oliver, their is an allusion to the hanging of is effigy, it is symbolic to the violence to come.Clearly the degree of violence is going to be wost and worst.This text shows that the atmosphere is going to degenarate.

We can see that the virginia resolve raised on the one hand points that we can understand(tax themself, they seem to claim a certain independance)but on the other hand they say they belong to the king.They wanted to have their cake and eat it.
